4Ps in East Africa

Supporting many different value-chain projects in East and Southern Africa, the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) wanted to start a process, which would help draw lessons from the different initiatives running in the region. With this in mind, up to 30 representatives of the IFAD-supported projects in Tanzania, Uganda and Rwanda joined the workshops organised by CTA and started an experience capitalization process.

From workshop to (audio) products

Farm Radio International has been working with CTA to analyse and share results from IUCN’s SUSTAIN project in Tanzania . After the documentation workshop  we had in April in Kilombero, in the Morogoro region, FRI took the lead to transform the information gathered at the workshop into radio programmes. These are already being broadcast.

Learning about land governance

With the support of two CTA consultants, a learning journey and documentation process took place in the OLENGEPA villages, in the Kiteto District in Tanzania, during the first days of June 2018. This was planned to help show the ongoing reforms which are securing women’s land access and ownership, a responsible land investment and sustainable rangelands management, and to help appreciate the innovative partnership behind these results.

Information for a new set of radio programmes

Farm Radio International (FRI) contacted CTA in 2017, as it was preparing an experience capitalisation and sharing project with IUCN, and wanted to bring CTA’s experience to the proposal. IUCN was interested in describing and analysing the work of the SUSTAIN programme currently running in Tanzania, and in sharing the results widely through interactive radio programmes. The process started in March 2018.

  In collaboration with CTA, the Dutch embassy in Ethiopia organized a five-day experience capitalization workshop in September 2017. With a slightly different set-up, this workshop was very effective in training a motivated group of participants, leading to a series of articles.

  CTA was contacted by representatives of IFAD's East and Southern Africa division, interested in a capitalization exercise that would help them describe and analyse the activities and results of the Public, Private, Producer Partnerships (4Ps) in the value chain development projects in the region.

  East Africa Farmers Federation - EAFF

  A capitalization process started with representatives of some of the member organizations of the East Africa Farmers Federation. The first workshop was in November, 2016, the second in March 2017.
